Last Friday, as I approached the church, I saw a construction worker, sweeping the north parking lot. It was a very busy day and I at first decided to ignore him and continue on into the office to "get my work done." That's when I got an attack of "Don't you practice what you preach?"

Paul was no doctor but his friend, Luke, was. I wonder if Luke was the one who explained to Paul about how ligaments hold a body together. Whoever it was, Paul knew that churches function as a body and don't just automatically stick together like day-old pudding, they are held together in a tough, organic way.

July 2010 - Grace Notes

There are many reasons we should scale back our ministries at this time and wait. The process of building will be chaotic - not a good time for ministry. Summer is always a bad time to get ministry going - too many people have gone camping. It would be dangerous to start more ministries, while the economy is looking shaky again. Better to sit and wait; things will eventually be more conducive. Four more months, or maybe six, and then things will be better. Then we can get the ministries going again. Right?

Three and a half years ago we held a service at Grace Church to honor the memory of Christopher Anderson, who gave his life for a bunch of Marines, serving in Iraq. He also gave his life for his country and for you and me.

Spring in Colorado is extraordinary. The warm weather, sunshine and beautiful blossoms of Spring contrast with the snow covered peaks. Moving into a new season always invigorates me and fills me with anticipation. What will God do this month, this year?

What was your favorite moment from the Winter Olympics in Vancouver? There certainly were a lot to pick from: Bode Miller and Lindsey Vonn out-skiing the competition by mere hundredths of a second; Apolo Ohno coming from behind to win a Silver Medal in short track; the contrast between the slow, ponderous glide of curling stones and the frenzied pace of the sweepers. Maybe you liked the ice dancing, or the biathlon event. I liked all that stuff, at least in measured doses. But one of my favorite memories of the Olympics was...
